Director of Athletic Philanthropy
The Director of Athletic Philanthropy at Colorado State University Pueblo (CSU Pueblo) Foundation plays a pivotal role in advancing the university’s athletic programs through strategic fundraising, event planning and donor engagement.
As an employee of the CSU Pueblo Foundation, this position will report directly to the President/CEO of the CSU Pueblo Foundation, but will work closely to with the CSU Pueblo VP of Athletics and the Athletic Development and Engagement Director.
The Director of Athletic Philanthropy is responsible for leading fundraising efforts that support the mission and goals of the athletic department. This role will develop and implement strategies to secure major gifts, grow annual giving, and enhance donor engagement for athletic programs, facilities, scholarships, and special initiatives. The Director will serve as a liaison between athletics and advancement, fostering relationships with alumni, donors, and key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy for athletics, with a focus on Pack Club annual fund initiatives, individual private giving and events.
- Work closely with coaches, athletic leadership, and Foundation colleagues to align fundraising goals with athletic priorities.
- Manage a personal portfolio of 100–150 prospects and conduct 75+ significant donor visits per year.
- Collaborate on fundraising events, donor recognition programs, and other engagement opportunities.
- Lead or assist in capital campaign efforts related to athletic facilities and programmatic enhancements.
- Provide reports and analysis on fundraising performance, projections, and key metrics.
- Represent the department at university, athletic, and alumni events.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of successful fundraising or equivalent experience, preferably in collegiate athletics or higher education.
- Proven track record of securing major gifts and cultivating long-term donor relationships.
- Knowledge of NCAA regulations and college athletics culture is strongly preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- High degree of initiative, energy, and flexibility.
- Ability to travel and attend evening/weekend events as required.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with donor CRM software (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce).
- Familiarity with athletic fundraising strategies, naming opportunities, and scholarship endowments.
- Comfort with public speaking and presenting to diverse audiences.
Compensation:
Salary range $65,000 to $75,000 plus a performance bonus structure. Includes competitive benefits package, retirement contributions, and professional development support.
