Born and raised in Colorado Springs, Anna Knight is the 2023-24 recipient of the Patricia and Harry Rurup Nursing Scholarship. Anna is a single mother to a beautiful daughter, Aubrie, who is in her third year at the University of Northern Colorado and is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.

Working in sports medicine opened Anna’s eyes to how fulfilling it is to help others when they are dealing with difficulties. “I first realized my passion when I was a ‘candy-striper’ volunteer at Memorial Hospital many years ago,” she says. “From that moment on, I knew I wanted to work in healthcare and make a difference.”

The rigorous nature of the nursing program, including demanding classwork and clinical hours, makes it difficult to have a job. Consequently, Anna decided to quit working and devote herself to her education. “This scholarship helps alleviate the financial burden in the pursuit of my dream to become a registered nurse,” she adds.
