From working in the mental health field at a local business to launching her own private practice, Mariah Tipton-Hamilton, a 2019 Psychology alumna, is using her skills from CSU Pueblo to create a better world and changing the perception of mental health. After earning her undergraduate bachelors, Mariah went on to complete her master’s in clinical mental health counseling at Adams State University, further strengthening her expertise in the field.
Reflecting on her CSU Pueblo days, Mariah highlights attending the Rocky Mountain Psychological Association (RMPA) conference in Denver as a formative experience that inspired her to make a lasting impact on the mental health field. She also fondly remembers her time with the CSU Pueblo Thunderwolves Marching Band, where she built lifelong friendships and learned the value of dedication and teamwork—qualities she brings to her practice and personal life.
Mariah’s education and experiences at CSU Pueblo prepared her to think outside the box and to understand human development in a nuanced way, paving the way for her current success. Today, she proudly owns Rising Phoenix Counseling Services, LLC, a private practice she dreamed of creating for years. She also contributes to her community as an assistant coach for high school bowling, helping athletes understand the mental aspects of the sport.
For current students and new graduates, Mariah’s advice is to persevere despite challenges:
“There are going to be many people telling you that you can’t do something, but don’t listen. Keep following your dreams and keep moving forward.”
Staying closely connected to her alma mater, Mariah follows CSU Pueblo and the Thunderwolves Marching Band on social media, attends the State Fair Band Shell performances, and cheers on the Thunderwolves at as many football games as she can. Her dedication to her field and her continued involvement with CSU Pueblo underscores her commitment to giving back and making a difference.
