For Krystle Herrera, her time at CSU Pueblo was more than a stepping stone; it was a launching pad for a career rooted in communication, community, and connection. A 2013 Mass Communications graduate, Krystle fondly recalls co-hosting the morning show on Rev89, the university’s campus radio station. Each weekday, she and her team arrived at 5:45 a.m. to script, plan, and prep for their live broadcast. That early-morning routine taught her the discipline of preparation, the power of teamwork, and the importance of clear messaging. These skills continue to guide her career to this day.
From the student studio to the city newsroom, Krystle’s path has been one of growth and impact. Her career began with an internship at KOAA Channel 5 News and later took her inside the bustling newsroom of The Pueblo Chieftain, where she witnessed firsthand the vital role of journalism in a thriving community. Today, she serves as a communications professional for both The Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce and Visit Pueblo, where she champions local businesses and works to boost tourism throughout Pueblo County.
Among her proudest accomplishments is her role in producing the Pueblo Chile & Frijoles Festival, Southern Colorado’s largest and most celebrated event. Her work not only honors Pueblo’s rich traditions but also fuels the region’s economic and cultural future.
Krystle remains deeply connected to the ThunderWolf community, often crossing paths with fellow CSU Pueblo alumni working in media and communications. “There’s nothing like the camaraderie between Mass Comm alumni,” she says. “We support one another, whether that’s offering a hand up or sharing new opportunities.”
Her advice to current students and new graduates: “Find your passion and run with it. When you truly care about the work you’re doing, the quality of your work naturally rises, and so does your impact.”
From the Rev89 studio to the heart of Pueblo, Krystle continues to embody the spirit of a ThunderWolf. She is driven, passionate, and proud to give back to the community that shaped her.
