Lindsay Martin, a 2010 graduate of CSU Pueblo’s Exercise Science, Health Promotion & Recreation (EXHPR) program, has turned her passion for the outdoors into a fulfilling career. As the Outdoor Recreation Administrator for the City of Pueblo’s Parks and Recreation Department, Lindsay is dedicated to developing and promoting outdoor recreational opportunities in the community.
One of Lindsay’s most memorable experiences at CSU Pueblo was her Managing Programs in EXHPR class, where she and her classmates organized an adventure race. “Each person had a different job and responsibility, and it was awesome how everything came together at the end for the event,” she recalls. The project provided her with valuable, hands-on experience in event planning and management—skills she now uses regularly in her role with the city.
Lindsay credits her CSU Pueblo education for equipping her with a strong foundation in leadership, management, and outdoor skills. “Classes in recreation management and environmental studies gave me valuable knowledge about program development,” she says. Additionally, hands-on experiences through CSU Pueblo’s Outdoor Pursuits program and her internship helped her gain practical skills and real-world exposure to the field.
Since earning her degree, Lindsay has worked on several projects that have allowed her to make a meaningful impact in her field. She is particularly excited about her current endeavor—organizing the inaugural Steel City Arkansas River Festival for the City of Pueblo. Scheduled for Saturday, July 26, 2025, the festival will take place along the Arkansas River from City Park to Union Avenue Bridge. “This festival will showcase what a fantastic amenity the river is to the area and celebrate the region’s natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities,” she shares. With a vision of fostering community spirit, the event aims to bring together families, adventure seekers, and tourists while enhancing Pueblo’s cultural and social vibrancy.
Reflecting on her journey, Lindsay encourages current students and recent graduates to take advantage of networking opportunities and build strong relationships with professors and peers. “These are the individuals that you can call upon for advice and help once you are working in your career,” she advises. She also stresses the importance of seeking internships and volunteer opportunities to gain real-world experience and remaining adaptable in an ever-changing job market.
Lindsay values staying connected to the Thunderwolf community, recognizing its role in providing support, resources, and career opportunities. Whether through alumni events, social media groups, or local community activities, she appreciates the network of CSU Pueblo graduates who continue to uplift one another in their professional journeys.
Lindsay Martin’s story is a testament to the power of education, hands-on experience, and community engagement. Through her work in outdoor recreation and event planning, she continues to make a lasting impact in Pueblo, helping others experience and appreciate the beauty of the great outdoors.
